Jonny and Steph at Malcesine Castle, a stunning wedding venue on the banks of Lake Garda
Italy has a special place in my heart, after living there for year, and Malcesine Castle on the banks of Lake Garda in Northern Italy is fast becoming a regular destination wedding venue for me. Jonny and Steph’s wedding was such a fun family occasion that I found myself staying late into the night!
Getting ready in the morning was a little chaotic, with Steph’s nieces and nephews around, but it was great fun, and I enjoy putting my documentary skills to the test! For me it’s about telling a truthful story of the day, and trust me there were some quieter moments to calm the pre wedding nerves and do some portraits.
The secluded terrace at Malcesine Castle (also known as Scaliger Castle) is a magical place to hold your wedding ceremony. You’ll be grateful for the gentle breeze that comes off the lake, and there’s even the opportunity to have live musicians accompany you down the aisle and entertain your guests.
After a beautiful ceremony and a few family photos I found some dappled shade for Jonny and Steph to do the official wedding portraits. They both looked so good, Jonny in a navy linen blazer and Steph in her Claire Pettibone dress, they were such a joy to photograph.
One of the most memorable parts of any wedding on Lake Garda is the boat ride that couples are able to take after their ceremony. It’s often a surprise for the wedding guests and family, but it’s a great way to see the sights and enjoy a glass or two of Prosecco.
After a short walk along the edge of the lake, the evening rounded off at one of Malcesine’s bars and after a first dance from Jonny and Steph, and a few more drinks, the party really got going. The perfect end to an amazing day!
“Getting married? I’d love to hear about your wedding plans.”
