An Epic New Year’s Eve Wedding
I’ve photographed a couple of New Year’s Eve wedding before, and I always love photographing at Notley Abbey (who recommend me as one of their preferred photographers.) So when Cara and Sam got in touch about their epic New Year’s Eve wedding, I leapt at the chance to document their day.

New Year’s Eve Wedding at Notley Abbey
The day began with a misty fog descended over Notley that created a real stillness and romantic calm to the venue, that I’ve previously only photographed in summer. Winter weddings do of course come with their own photographic challenges, so I was keen to get some nice establishing shots of the venue before the couple and their guests started to arrive.
I also knew that I wanted to get some great colour images, when the opportunity presented itself (Cara and her bridesmaids didn’t disappoint, with their bold pink and red colour scheme) and I wanted to lean into my black & white edit that works particularly well in tricky indoor lighting scenarios, and worked so well with the black tie dress code. *My couples get all their wedding photos in black & white and in colour, so it really is the best of both worlds.
The entire vibe of the wedding was so fun, and a little bit silly, and what could have felt like a long day, went by so quickly. Even dad’s leg being in a cast, didn’t stop him from participating in every part of the day!
This Harper wedding venue is so well equipped for a New Year’s Eve wedding, that it took all the stress away from the formal photography, and friends and family were so cooperative in braving the cold for the confetti and a few carefully chosen group photos. A champagne tower signalled the start of the evening celebrations, and the dance floor was packed all evening, until five minutes to midnight, when we were all ushered outside for fireworks to welcome in the new year!
