St. Peter's Italian Church Wedding Clerkenwell

St. Peter’s Italian Church Wedding Clerkenwell

This St. Peter’s Italian Church Wedding Clerkenwell was one of my favourite weddings of summer 2023. St. Peter’s Church in Clerkenwell, represents the biggest Catholic Italian community in London. Opened in 1863, it was at the time, the only church in Britain designed in the Roman basilican style. The Irish architect John Miller Bryson worked from plans drawn by Francesco Gualandi of Bologna, modelled on the Basilica of San Crisogno in Rome. It has a tranquil feel and one could spend hours there, soaking up the prayerful atmosphere and admiring the stunning painted ceilings and artwork.

My style of photography is all about storytelling in pictures, and for that reason, I love whenever a couple get in touch, and describe to me a wedding that is a little outside my comfort zone, or simply a venue or timeline that I’ve not experienced yet. It keeps me on my toes, and brings out new creative ideas. This was most definitely the case with this Italian couple, living in London with plans for a St. Peter’s Italian Church Wedding Clerkenwell, and then a traditional London Route Master bus ride out to Farnham Castle in Surrey, for their reception and party.

The Morning of the Wedding

On the morning of the wedding, and after discussions with the couple, I had decided to drive first their reception venue at Farnham Castle, and then take the train up to London. This meant that I’d be better able to capture many more of the in between moments as the wedding party moved from one location to another. Both the bride and groom where getting ready at home, and the buzz among the family, who had congregated together, and the wafts of coffee as I arrived (and the pizza that was to come) made for a very Italian vibe throughout the morning!

The Marriage Ceremony at St. Peter’s Clerkenwell

The ceremony was everything I’d hoped it would be! It saddens me sometimes that the ceremony it’s at many weddings is such a small part of the day, but gravitas and ceremony involved in the Catholic tradition is so beautiful to witness and really gets the emotions flowing. There were great photo opportunities throughout, and the time and space to move around St. Peter’s Church meant that I could do so without distracting from the sanctity of this St. Peter’s Italian Church Wedding Clerkenwell.

The Wedding Reception at Farnham Castle

Following the beautiful ceremony at St. Peter’s Clerkenwell, we all loaded onto a red London bus and made our way to Farnham Castle. Had it not been for the traffic, we would have arrived in Surrey earlier, but nevertheless, it was a beautiful summer evening and as well as being welcomed by a saxophonist on the lawn at Farnham Castle, there were platters of food, and everyone was in full-on party more from that point on!
