Family & Friends Wedding Photography

Family & Friends Wedding Photography

There’s room for all different styles of wedding photography, but still, I find it bizarre when I see the work of other photographers that seems to only include the couple, and perhaps a small selection of the bridal party. In the main, I blame Instagram for this trend, and the need for photographers to treat the platform, not as a means to show off the diversity of their work, but to brand themselves and promote their work to what they have determined as their “ideal couple”.

This idea of defining your niche as a photographer, seems to ignore one of the most beautiful things about wedding, in my opinion; that is the coming together of family of different generations and friends from all different walks of life. Something that I feel should be celebrated in your pictures, and not hidden away because the diversity of your wedding guests doesn’t fit with the narrow marketing objectives your photographer has set for their business.

It’s a fundamental part of documentary photography, that one tries to respond to what’s in front of the camera, rater than going into a shoot with a predetermined vision, and Lizzy and Ed were totally onboard with this idea. Their day at Pembroke Lodge was a true celebration of family and friends, children, colour, music, laughter and dancing. A total joy to photograph!
