Malcesine Castle Wedding Photography

Katie and David’s wedding at Malcesine Castle on the banks of Lake Garda was, for obvious reasons, a wedding that I’d been looking forward to for a long time. Apart from Katie and David being an amazing couple, I simply love everything about Italy! Early in my career I was fortunate enough to live near Venice for a year, and so the opportunity to return and spend a few days exploring a different region of the country was one that I couldn’t pass up. I’d met with Katie and David a couple of times in the UK in the run-up to the wedding, but as they were flying out to Italy a couple of days before the wedding, I decided to do the same. I always like to visit a new venue to do a recce rather than arriving cold on the day of the wedding. Lake Garda also has a number of other beautiful wedding venues that I wanted to visit, each with their own unique character, that you can see here.

My Malcesine Castle wedding photography for Katie and David began at their hotel where Katie was getting ready, before being driven by tuk tuk with her very proud dad to the castle. These kind of moments between the more official parts of the wedding day can often generate the most exciting photo opportunities and helps to create a narrative across a set of pictures. I loved squeezing in beside the driver as we trundled through the picturesque and winding streets of Malcesine (with a short stop off to touch up hair and makeup!) It was during the tuk tuk ride that I think the excitement really started to build for all of us as locals and tourists alike all stopped to wave and wish Katie good luck.

During a beautifully simple outdoor ceremony we were accompanied my Katie’s brother on guitar and enjoyed two lovely readings by David’s sister and one of their best friends. I guess the thing that holds many people back from planning a destination wedding is arranging travel for all their friends and family, but Team Fearn/Hart and friends are clearly a loyal bunch and helped make Katie and David’s day so memorable. After the ceremony the happy couple had laid on a surprise boat trip for everyone and although it was a little blowy on the lake that day everyone had a great time as the Prosecco began to flow! Back on dry land and the afternoon soon slid into evening with a wonderful meal and speeches that included a poem that David had written himself. Other hidden talent on show that evening included lots of twerking and blue steel impressions (I’m not sure if the locals knew what had hit them!) and a rendition of Brown Eyed Girl by Katie on guitar. Thank you to everyone for an unforgettable day and making me feel so welcome.
