I’m no wedding planner, but on this page I’ve selected my favourite alternative Surrey wedding venues that I’ve worked at in the county.
Finding A Wedding Venue That’s Quirky & Unique
Social media platforms such as Instagram and Pinterest have in recent years made planning your wedding a far more visual experience as they tempt couples with ever more desirable dream wedding destinations. Social media is a great way to discover outdoor Surrey wedding venues and discover the unconventional Surrey wedding venues that you may not even have realised could host your big day.

You might have a particular family connection to Surrey, or another reason to marry in this beautiful county that I call home, but if you’re able to be more flexible with your wedding ideas then there are some equally amazing venues to the quirky Surrey wedding venues featured here. Just scroll to the bottom of this page to discover some of my favourite unorthodox wedding venues in London, Hampshire and elsewhere in the South East.
1 . Charterhouse School, Godalming
If you’re looking for a wedding venue with the grandeur and tradition of a church ceremony, but somewhere where you can create your own non-traditional spin on a modern ceremony, then the South African Cloisters at Charterhouse could be just what you’re looking for. A little way outside of the beautiful town of Godalming, Charterhouse is one of the leading public schools in the country but is also perfectly equipped to hold your wedding
Bathed in beautiful soft summer sun, but also sheltered (should the English weather take a turn for the worst) the SouthAfrican Cloisters will wow your assembled friends and family, and the lawn outside forms the perfect space for drinks and canapés before moving on to your reception. Check out the Charterhouse website for more details and check out the rest of Emma & Lawrence’s wedding over on my blog.
2 . Ridge Farm, Dorking
Ridge Farm is without doubt one of the most unique Surrey wedding venues you could wish for. There’s a very special vibe there, not to mention the really practical aspects of the venue that help make this one of my favourite wedding venues to shoot at. The sixteenth century farm house was converted to became one of the first residential recording studios in the UK, hosting such amazing artists as Roxy Music, Queen and Ozzy Osbourne.
Gold records decorate the walls of the house, and whether you choose to get ready at the venue, hold an outdoor ceremony in the orchard, and even camp in the fields overnight, you’ll feel like rockstars for the day, and create some very special memories at this out of the ordinary Surrey wedding venue.
3 . RHS Wisley Garden, Guildford
Perhaps one of the most surprising Surrey wedding venues, you may not have even realised that RHS Wisley near Guildford hosts a small number of weddings each year. Not as surprised though as weekend visitors to the gardens will be when you and your wedding guests descend like a flash-mob to conduct your ceremony in any number of the beautiful locations around the venue.
In the evening, the venue becomes all yours, and the amazing glass house at Wisley will take your breath away, and that of your guests. Wisley Garden is one of the most unique Surrey wedding venues and would suit any couple wanting to hold a humanist wedding ceremony and party into the night in a truly amazing wedding venue.
4 . Hampton Court House, Kingston Upon Thames
A stones throw from Hampton Court Palace, Hampton Court House is one of the most unusual Surrey wedding venues. It’s actually a small school with a quit bohemian air about it. You can imagine the pupils creating very special memories of their school days here, and the pictures of Alice in Wonderland productions decorating the wall attest to the artistic leanings of the school and the wonderful backdrop that Hampton Court House provides.
Ceremonies typically take place in the stunning grand hall, overlooking Bushy Park, before leading your guests outside onto the lawn or through the house to the magical red theatre room and conservatory. Outside the greens are landscaped with tropical plants, a picturesque lake and even a grotto! To describe Hampton Court House as one of the more strange and wonderful Surrey wedding venues, would be an understatement!
5 . Northbrook Park, Farnham
One of Surrey’s most established wedding venues., Northbrook Park is in many ways a blank canvas, ready for you to style in what ever way you like and put your own personal touches on your day. With resident peacocks roaming the grounds and two light-filled spaces for your ceremony and reception, Northbrook remains one of the most amazing Surrey wedding venues.
I’ve seen wedding of all kinds and all cultures use Northbrook Park in their own unique way, and it’s even an option to sue the beautiful walled garden for an outdoor ceremony, safe in the knowledge that there is always a great wet-weather alternative in the vine room. Situated just outside the market town of Farnham, Northbrook Park is a venue where you can get ready in the morning and party until late!
6 . Gate Street Barn, Bramley
Still one of my very favourite Surrey wedding venues, the delightful Gate Street Barn is a quant, slightly Boho venue that oozes charm. As Quirky Surrey wedding venues go, Gate Street Barn is right up there, and recent renovations to the barn have made big improvements to the natural light and usability of the space no matter what time of year you’re getting married.
Gate Street Barn is one of those unusual Surrey wedding venues that feel warm and cozy, and staff are friendly and always on hand to help with your wedding planning. A perfect location for a medium size wedding with family and friends at the centre of everything. Catering (yes it’s important that your guests are fed well!) is second to none at Gate Street Barn. I’ve witnessed the most amazing restaurant quality dishes emerge from the kitchens, alway with a little twist to make them personal to the couple.
