Malcesine Wedding Photography, Italy

Where do I possibly start when trying to sum up Lauren and Joe’s wedding in Malcesine on the banks of the idillic Lake Garda in northern Italy? Well, I’m actually going to begin by going right back to when Lauren first contacted me to see if I was available. It’s fair to say, I think, that they had both made up their minds that if I was free, that they would book. Well, I was, and they did, and that sense of trust and excitement never wained. In doing her research, Lauren had discovered some of the previous weddings that I’ve shot on Lake Garda and loved what she saw. Lake Garda and the town of Malcesine has become a special place for me now, having shot five weddings in the space of as many years. Walking around the town now I’m reminded of all kinds of memories from each wedding.

Despite the familiarity of the location, there were also a couple of firsts for me, which added to the day. It was the first time visiting Hotel Vega for bridal prep, an elegant, modern and friendly hotel just a stones throw from the centre of town, and it was also my first time working with James Stratford, a videographer with even more experience than me of shooting at Malcesine Castle! So close to each other were Joe and Lauren when they were getting ready, that I was able to take pictures of both of them, and I’m really glad I did. The guys were looking so sharp in the tuxedoes and I was able to get some great story telling shots, a few of which you can see below. The rest of the day ran so smoothly (despite just a few spots of rain after the ceremony) and as I got to know the families and friends that had joined Lauren and Joe on their Italian adventure, I knew that the speeches and party were going to be amazing. James and I were very kindly included in the seating plan and so enjoyed the wonderful food provided by La Voglia, and all too soon the sun began to set and the party was in full swing!
