Finding A Winter Wedding Venue That’s Perfect For You

The tradition might be to get married in summer, but with so many wonderful venues to choose from, and with winter having a charm all of it’s own, and often holding very special festive memories for people, the colder months of the year can be a great choice for couples wishing to do things a little differently and create some very special memories of their big day.

1 . Ramster Hall, Chiddingfold

I’ve shot some of my very favourite winter weddings at Ramster Hall in Surrey. If you’d like to see some of those then check out my dedicated page of Ramster Hall weddings HERE. Ramster works so well as a winter wedding venue mainly because it has such a warmth and inviting quality to it. That comes from all the wood panelling, the fire place, the grand piano, but also the quirky decor of the place.

You and your guests will also feel right at home here because the owners and staff are so welcoming. Perhaps most importantly of all though, the spaces at Ramster Hall work so well in winter. There is still plenty of natural light coming into the ceremony space and at no point in the day should you feel pressured to move from one room to anther as there is plenty of space to relax as the staff run the day around you.

2 . Cain Manor, Bordon

All of the wedding venues owned by Bijou brand, of which Cain Manor is just one, make for wonderful winter wedding venues. If you haven’t already discovered the range of Bijou wedding venues then do take a look at their website HERE. The care and attention to detail that they take with every couple, not to mention their wonderful catering, means that even if the winter weather is at it’s worst, you and you guests will have a wonderful time.

What makes Cain Manor such a special venue in my opinion, and so well suited to a winter wedding, is the atmospheric light in the venue. The suite where the bride will normally get ready is a beautiful space with original wood beams and leaded windows, and the ceremonies take place in front of the huge window in the main barn which means that the couple are lit by the most glorious and flattering natural light.

3 . Hampton Court House, Kingston Upon Thames

For something a little quirky and out of the ordinary, Hampton Court House, just a stones throw from the palace, is a fantastic winter wedding venue. The ceremony space has real wow factor all year round, but with Christmas or new year approaching and with some appropriately festive lighting, the room really sparkles. The conservatory and red theatre room will also protect your guests from the elements and continue the winter wedding theme.

If you’re brave enough there are even opportunities to get outside into Bushy Park and or explore the gardens of Hampton Court House for a few portraits as a newly wed couple. What’s great is that you never have to go very far to experience the shell grotto or try to spot some of the deer roaming the park, gladly though, there are also plenty of indoor portrait options available!

4 . Farnham Castle, Farnham

I shot one of my very first weddings at Farnham Castle, and so it will always have a special meaning to me. Add to that the fact that I attended the art college in town back in the day and you can see that my association with the area goes back many years. As a winter wedding venue, you really can’t do much better than Farnham Castle.

What really sets Farnham Castle apart is it’s size and convenience. The couple can both get ready on site, without any danger of bumping into each other before the ceremony, there is the chapel on site, for smaller ceremonies and what is called the Lantern Room for ceremonies on a larger scale. The main hall can then cater for large numbers of guest, with spill out areas in the bar and lobby for guests to enjoy.

5 . Northbrook Park, Farnham

One of Surrey’s most established wedding venues, Northbrook Park is in many ways a blank canvas, ready for you to style in what ever way you like and put your own personal touches on your day. With resident peacocks roaming the grounds and two light-filled spaces for your ceremony and reception, Northbrook remains one of the most amazing Surrey wedding venues.

I’ll be honest, I do a little dance whenever a new enquiry comes in for Northbrook Park (too much!?) maybe, but even in winter this Surrey wedding venue is a joy to shoot at, check out my page dedicated to weddings at Northbrook Park HERE, I sure you’d be hard pressed to tell which are winter weddings as the natural light that illuminates Northbrook is so sublime.

6 . Bury Court Barn, Bentley

With possibly one of the most breathtaking barns in the whole of Surrey and Hampshire, Bury Court Barn is an incredibly versatile space with easy access into the courtyard garden which means that even in the middle of winter there are opportunities for portraits and family groups, should you want them.

Come the evening and the barn seamlessly transforms into a party space, with the clever use of a curtain that screens the dance floor the rest of the barn. The mezzanine level also works a a fantastic chill out area, or a space for games or a band, and you’re able to enjoy the grandeur of the barn from this elevated position.

7 . Great Fosters, Egham

Great Fosters really is one of those venues that has it all, and is perfect for a winter wedding. In fact it’s a great venue all year round, with even the option to hold outdoor ceremonies, but in winter, the ceremony space of the orangery is perfect and the glass conservatory and bar area to either side are the perfect spaces for your guests to gather before and after the ceremony before being led through to the barn.

What’s even more special about Great Fosters s that it isn’t just a wedding venue. I’m sure you’ll want to visit time and time again to enjoy the restaurants, pool and treatments on offer at this amazing venue. I attended one of my very first weddings here, so it will always hold great memories for me, as I’m sure it will for you if you choose to tie the knot here.
