“Wow! What a lovely Christmas present! They are stunning, we were filled with so much joy and emotion viewing them.  I love how you have managed to capture the different emotions of Sam, my Dad and myself in one shot – brilliant!” Laura + Sam

Clandon Park is undoubtedly one of the most iconic wedding venues in Surrey, and having shot there for the first time last summer, I was really looking forward to Laura and Sam’s wedding just before Christmas. Although the venue was familiar, Laura and Sam had chosen to use the space very differently to my last visit. We were so incredibly lucky with the weather on the day, but it was never in the plan to have a marquee on the lawn like Annabel and James’ summer wedding! Instead Laura and Sam chose the tapestry room at Clandon for their ceremony and would then host the wedding breakfast in the vaulted undercroft beneath the house. The light levels inside the tapestry room might prove a challenge for some photographers, but thankfully the technical jargon was something that Laura and I were able to talk openly about and share ideas. We discovered early on in our planning that Laura and I had actually done the same photography degree course (a few years apart!) so I was able to describe in detail how I would approach the ceremony. Laura was great in that she also gave me free range to be more creative with the light if I got the opportunity.

After the ceremony there was just time for me to take Laura and Sam outside for some portraits of them together. Laura’s dress by Miss Bush Bridalwear in Ripley was absolutely beautiful and suited Laura perfectly. There had been frost on the ground all morning and I really wanted to use it to convey the time of year in their portraits. I also really love the etherial quality of the light as some of the late afternoon sun seams to warm their faces and bounce off the frozen landscape.

Regrettably, Clandon Park suffered a devastating fire in April 2015 and is unable to host weddings for the forceable future. Please follow this link to discover other National Trust Wedding Venues in your area.
