Getting Married By The River Thames
Getting married by the River Thames, in one of the rowing clubs in Putney, is such a great option for any couples looking for a cool alternative venue in London. Hannah and Oliver chose the Thames Rowing Club where I’ve been fortunate to photograph a number of weddings over the years. It’s a wonderfully characterful venue, perfect for couples wanting to get married in the capital, but also looking for an alternative to the typical London hotel wedding venues. Check out my very first Thames Rowing Club wedding here!
This latest visit to the rowing club began with guests gathering for the ceremony, which is a lovely thing to do, as it’s a part of the day that the bride wouldn’t ordinarily get to see. There are some funny moments, and I can quickly get a sense of the vibe for the rest of the day, and meet some of the main players in the day, both young and old. This was actually the first time I’d photographed a ceremony at the Thames Rowing Club. It’s such a distinctive space and filled with natural light flooding in from the river side of the building where there are windows along the full length of the space.
After getting married by the River Thames, we of course had to get outside to throw confetti, and although it was a little chilly, everyone was in high spirits and happy to spend a bit of time outside. Being a winter wedding I was conscious that we should do portraits of the couple while the light was good, before the wedding breakfast, speeches and the rest of the evening got underway! A truly memorable day, for a fabulous couple.
