Greyfriars House Guildford Wedding Photography

One of Guildford’s best kept secrets, Greyfriars House Guildford really is one of the most beautifully presented venues I’ve photographed, and I’m delighted to be one of the venues recommended photographers. Greyfriars House is a mansion surrounded by beautiful landscapes. This historic house has been recently refurbished by its owners to create an exclusive boutique wedding venue. Set high on the edge of a fifty foot cliff, its lawns are level with the treetops below and have spectacular views over the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Licenced for civil ceremonies and receptions for up to 96 people, and evening parties for 130, Greyfriars House Guildford has everything you could wish for, including romantic settings for photographs both inside and out and a ceremony and reception room that is bathed in natural light.

The Greyfriars Estate was established in 1896 by the American playright Julian Sturgis. Sturgis commissioned the leading Arts and Crafts architect, CFA Voysey to build a mansion house for a spectacular setting outside Guildford, and Voysey excelled himself by producing twenty sheets of detailed drawings (now held in the collection of the Royal Institute of British Architects at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London).

Voysey’s design for the house featured the most visually impressive elevations of all his works. His plan was for one long line along a contour of the steep hillside. The entrance front is broken vertically into a number of sections, but it was the southern elevation which captured the attention of architects, writers and publishers… Greyfriars was undoubtedly the most widely published Voysey design, featuring in publications in America and Europe including Das Englishe Haus.

Emma and Kaushik’s was the quintessential English wedding done with such elegance and class. Greyfriars House Guildford, near my home, is such a perfect venue and I’m delighted to be one of their recommended photographers.

Having done an engagement shoot with Emma and Kaushik a few weeks before, and having met up a couple of times before that, by the time it got to the big day itself I felt like I already knew the two of them really well. They hired me for the whole day, which I love. Shooting the 12 hour package that I offer gives me a great opportunity to tell the whole story of the day and creates a really strong narrative in the album.

This was certainly one of those weddings that reminds me what a privilege it is to be a wedding photographer. And it seems they were rather pleased with the pictures too. To date I’ve already photographed several of their friends’ weddings and Emma’s younger sister is already lined up for next year!
