Pembroke Lodge Richmond Park Wedding Photos

Hyojin and Ben’s wedding took place on one of the hottest days of last summer. A distant memory it seems, as the drizzle falls outside my window as I sit down to write this blog post. Their Pembroke Lodge wedding photos actually began at the lovely Petersham Hotel, just a stones throw from Richmond Park. It was only a small room for Hyojin to get ready in, and with lots of coming and going of friends and family, it made things really fun. In tight situations like this I like to try and look for interesting framing, reflections, and layering of elements within my pictures.

There were nods to Hyojin’s Korean roots in what she wore, and with some guests in traditional dress it was time to make our way to Pembroke Lodge. Situated in the centre of Richmond Park, the lodge is a popular destination for families and cyclists stopping off for a bit of refreshment and is now able to conduct outdoor wedding ceremonies. The reactions of passersby whenever a bride walks through their field of view is something that is always worth trying to capture on camera (see the reaction of mum and daughter during Hyojin and Ben’s portraits session below.) Rather than too many pre-planned/fairytale images, it’s moments like this that I think really add to the story of the day, the way the couple experienced it.

Throughout all their Pembroke Lodge wedding photos the couple were enjoying themselves so much, and were great to work with. They even allowed me to do some portraits of them on my very old fashioned large format film camera, which can be seen HERE. They chose not to have the traditional first dance and party in the evening, opting instead for a very relaxed drinks reception on the terrace outside Pembroke Lodge, and culminating in throwing the bouquet, which was a lovely way for me to end my coverage of the day. I’m also so grateful to Hyojin for the kind words she sent me after seeing their photos for the first time.

“I am so glad that I found David and he could take my Pembroke Lodge wedding photos. He captured all those beautiful and happy moments while he was staying unobtrusive.”
